The death occurred peacefully at the Margaret Stewart Ellis Home, O'Leary, on Monday, May 25, 2026, with his family by his side, of Vernon Lorne Hardy, of Elmsdale, in his 105th year. Born at Elmsdale, PEI, on July 14, 1921, he was the last surviving family member of the late Emmerson Arthur and Hazel Olga (nee MacAusland) Hardy.

Beloved husband to the late Jean (nee Nicholson) Hardy who predeceased him in 2005. Dear father to Lorna (Clair) McNeill, of Huntley, Gordon (Brenda), of Summerside, Linda (late Clayton) Oliver, of Woodvale, Roger (deceased), and Ian, of Elmsdale. Loving grandfather to Lorne, Michael, Stephanie, Shane, Curtis, Tamara, Karan, Dawn, Stuart, Aaron, Laura, and Natalie. He is also survived by his 26 great-grandchildren, and by his 16 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hardy and Alice Whitlock. Vernon will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and friends, especially the members from Zetland Masonic Lodge #7, Alberton, where he was a member for many years.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Muriel, Cleve, Nadine, Eldon, Mable, Christina, Fred, Allison, Elizabeth, and Dorothy.

Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home and Chapel, Alberton. No visitation by request. Funeral on Saturday afternoon from the E. Gerald Rooney Memorial Chapel, at 3:00 p.m., Rev. Erasmus Madimbu officiating. Interment in the Elmsdale United Church Cemetery.

Brethren from Zetland Lodge #7, AF & AM will hold a Masonic service following the service. Everyone is welcome to attend.
