The death occurred at the Western Hospital, Alberton, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, with her loving family by her side, of Mary Elva Getson, of Maplewood Manor, Alberton, formerly of Greenmount, age 83 years, beloved wife of the late Douglas Melvin Getson. Born at St. Felix on December 26, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Alice (Perry) DesRoche. 

Loving mother to Darlene Casford, Charlottetown, Lyman (Audrey), St. Felix, Dianne (Stephen) Gaudet, Tignish, and Shelley (Shelby) Sentner, Mill River. Cherished grandmother to Lindsey, Krista, Kyle, Brett, Jeff, Savanna, and Sami-Jo. Great-grandmother to Kennedy, Connor, Keigan, Ben, and Scottie Rae. She is also survived by a sister, Shirley (Clifford) Harper, of Norway. Dear sister-in-law of Marion Blackburn of NS, Elsie (William) Blackburn of Greenmount, Aldona Rayner of Greenmount, Ethel Follington of Alberta, James Hall, of Truro, NS, LeRoy Hiltz of Montrose, and Cyril Doucette of Moncton, NB. She will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Elva will be sadly missed by two special nieces, Valerie Ramsay and Kim LeBlanc ,and by her two dear friends Jean Cahill and Hazel Perry.

She was predeceased by her father and mother-in-law, Ernest and Winnifred Getson, her brothers, Junior (late Denise) DesRoche, Leamon (late Edith) DesRoche, and a sister, Betty Doucette. She was also predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman (late Laura) Getson, Sidney Getson, Percy Getson, Edna Hiltz, Florence Hall, Violet (late Wilbert) Gaudette. 

Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home and Chapel, Alberton, for visiting hours Thursday, 7:00 to 9:00pm. Funeral mass Friday from St. Simon and St. Jude Church, Tignish, for funeral mass at 4:00pm. Interment in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery, Kildare Capes. 

As an expression of sympathy memorials to the Maplewood Manor, Alberton, or to the IWK Children's Hospital would be gratefully appreciated.

The Tignish Branch #6 of the Royal Canadian Ladies Auxiliary will hold prayers on Thursday evening at the funeral home at 6:45pm.
