The death occured peacefully at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, on Thursday, May 6, 2021, with her loving family by her side, of Mary Margaret Bernard, beloved wife of Ben J. (Benny) Bernard, of Harper Road, Tignish, age 81 years. Born in Charlottetown, PEI, on June 27, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Hilda (nee MacDonald) Smith.

Mary was a devoted school teacher for many years and received her education in Charlottetown, then went on to finish her education at the University of New York, Ecole Polytechnique Montreal and then St. Francis Xavier University in Antogonish.

She is dearly loved and will be sadly missed by her children, Ricky (Sonya) Bernard of Harper Road, Paul (Kylee) Bernard of Charlottetown, Bill (Patsy) Bernard of Harper Road, Beverley Bernard of Charlottetown, and by daughter-in-law, Barbara Gaudet Bernard. Cherished grandmother to Lance, Sophie, Thomas and Austin (Lauren). Dear sister to Judy (Lennie) Sirois of Charlottetown. Dear aunt to Jenny Sirois-Curtis, Michael Sirois, Julie McCabe, Chris Smith, Randy Smith and Roch Smith.

She was predeceased by children Eric, Barbara and Debbie, brothers, Owen Smith and Charles (late Rose Marie) Smith, and son-in-law, Morgan Rhynes.

Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home and Chapel, Alberton, for vsiting hours Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. for invited guests only. Funeral mass Monday afternoon May 10, 2021, from St. Simon and St. Jude Church, Tignish, for invited guests only, at 4:00 p.m., Rev. John Molina, Celebrant. Interment in the church cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, memorials to St. Simon and St. Jude Restoration Fund or to the IWK Children's Hospital would be greatfully appreciated.
