The death occurred peacefully at the Pavillion Providence Facility, Montreal, on Monday,  March 5, 2018, of Rev. Lawrence Gallant, OFM, of Montreal, and formerly of Piusville, P.E.I., age 87 years. Born on December 24, 1931, he was the son of the late Anthony and (Ida nee Arsenault) Gallant.

Father Lawrence entered the Franciscan Order in 1951 and was ordained at his home Church, St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Woodstock, P.E.I., in 1959. He studied for many years in Paris, France, and returned to Montreal, where he resided and worked with the Franciscan priest for the past 20 years. Father Lawrence was 66 years in religious  life and 58 years in the priesthood.

He is survived by siblings, Peter (Aldona) Gallant of Piusvelle, Francis (Joanne) Gallant of Toronto, Ont., Theresa (late Oscar) Gallant of Piusville, Palma (late Ron) Allan of Hamilton, Ont., Elmer (Florence) Gallant of Saint John, N.B., Shirley (Norm) Myers of Calgary, Merina (late Wayne) Barclay of Calgary, and sister-in-law, Leona Gallant of Alberton. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews and acquaintances.

He was predeceased by a brother Clarence and by a sister Delia (late Wilfred) Gallant.

Funeral mass was celebrated in Montreal on Friday, March 9, 2018, with interment in the Franciscan Cemetery.
